Minutes-Special BOE meeting July 24, 2023
President Tim Rasmussen called the Special Meeting of the Plainview Public Schools Board of Education to order at 7:30 AM on Monday, July 24th.
The following members were present: Tim Rasmussen, Mike Sauser, Chance Anderson, Wyatt Frahm. Melissa Doerr arrived at 7:37.
The following members were absent: Deb Jensen
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Tim Rasmussen declared that this special meeting public notice included the social media site of the Plainview Public Schools and the Plainview News and a hard copy was posted at the Plainview News, Plainview Public Schools, and Casey’s General Store.
Chance Anderson made a motion to approve the agenda. That motion was second by Wyatt Frahm…voice vote…motion passes.
Public Comment: No one requested to speak.
Mr. Rasmussen indicated that the reason for the Special Meeting is for the board to put support behind the Admin team's plan to educate several classrooms of kids at alternative sites.
Dr. Arlt made a statement about what has led us to this point which included the initial response on the evening of July 10th.
Mrs. Hodson shared what steps she took and conversations she had after the admin team concluded that the best option was move a 3rd grade classroom to the City Library and the 2 Kindergarten classrooms to the Methodist Church.
The board had several questions and comments directed to Mrs. Hodson and Dr. Arlt.
After about 30 minutes of discussion Tim Rasmussen made a motion to approve the administrative plan to temporarily relocate Kindergarten and 3rd grade and to authorize the administrative team to make reasonable decisions and adjustments during the transition until the return to the Elementary building. Mike Sauser seconded the motion.
The following members voted in favor of the motion: Tim Rasmussen, Mike Sauser, Wyatt Frahm, Melissa Doerr.
The following members voted no: Chance Anderson
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 by President Tim Rasmussen.
