FCCLA Holds Awards Night and Installs ‘24-25 Officers

FCCLA held their annual Awards and Officer Installation Night April 24 at 6:30 in the High School Media Center.  The evening began with a potluck supper followed by the awards, recognition of members, and honoring of seniors, and installation of officers.

President Shayla Jacobsen began the evening by welcoming the guests and the Opening Ceremony.  A movie highlights the events throughout the year was viewed while members and guests enjoyed appetizers and desserts. Following, President Jacobsen and Vice President Kaydance Maertins shared with everyone the accomplishments of the chapter. President Shayla Jacobsen shared information about awards the chapter had received at the State Leadership Conference in April.  The chapter had received the following awards:  The Gold Star Chapter Award, White Chapter Affiliation Award, Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety Nebraska National Program Award, Feed Nebraska, and Membership Increase.  Mrs. Jacobsen had also received the A.C.E. Award. 

 

Vice President Kaydance Maertins presented the High Five Membership Award for recruiting 5 members to Brooke Forbes, Shayla Jacobsen, and Dakotah Albin.  Shayla Jacobsen was also recognized and received her certificate for participating in the Senior Signing Event held at the State Leadership Conference. The certificates and plaques remained on display for the night.

At State Leadership Conference, students had the option to take Challenge Tests in FCS Curriculum areas. Jacobsen presented chapter members with their certificates:  Kaydance Martins: Nutrition-Senior Division, Brook Forbes: Nutrition-Senior Division; First Place, and Dakotah Albin: Housing & Interior Design-Junior Division; First Place.  Students also were able to compete in Skill Demonstration Events which served as an introduction to FCCLA’s competitive STAR events and required a shorter time commitment than regular STAR Events projects. 2 Students competed in these events both in Job Interviewing and received their certificates: Ashlyn Forbes Level 2; and Scarlet Torrey Level 1, First Place.

 

Officer Kaydance Maertins presented the STEP One Certificates to new members Josiah Barron, Scarlet Torrey, Jaden may, Katelynn Mosel, Kensie Mosel, Stephanie Enriquez, Angie Camacho, and Branson Forbes who earned this award by completing the STEP One Program where they learned about FCCLA, its purposes, and programs.

 

Officer Weston Hoffman shared information about STAR events and then gave students who competed in STAR events their District and State STAR Competition Certificates and medals.  At Districts, 4 students, Dakotah Albin, Shayla Jacobsen, Brooke Forbes, and Kaydance Maertins competed and all received gold medals, and first place in their events which qualified them for state competition.  At state competition Brooke and Kaydance received silver medals and Dakotah received a gold medal in her event.  Shayla Jacobsen also received a Gold Medal, 2nd Place, and Runner-Up in Job Interview, to qualify for nationals which will be held in Orlando, Florida July 5-9.

 

Adviser Mrs. Jacobsen presented the Power of One Awards to members who completed goals within each module that they had set for themselves and worked to achieve this year. Members received a certificate for each module they completed this year with the goal to complete all 5 units by their senior year.  Receiving certificates this year in the following modules were “Working on Working”: Dakotah Albin, Ashlyn Forbes, Weston Hoffman, Scarlet Torrey, Baili Prewitt;  “Speak Out for FCCLA”: Brooke Forbes; “Family Ties”: Dakotah Albin; “Take the Lead”:  Brooke Forbes and Kaydance Maertins.  Receiving a certificate and plaque for having completed all five units this year were senior members Shayla Jacobsen and Brooke Forbes.

 

Members meeting the requirements to attend the Summer Incentive Activity, based on chapter involvement and programs they completed throughout the year was announced and members were presented with certificates. Members were: Shayla Jacobsen, Kaydance Maertins, Ashlyn Forbes, Kiley Richter, Anika Robinson, Ilyana Barron, Meleah Buck, Scarlet Torrey, Brooke Forbes, and Dakotah Albin. The summer activity will be decided before school is dismissed for the summer.

 

Adviser Ronita Jacobsen presented outstanding member awards.  This year four members met the criteria for “Outstanding Member of the Year”.  Shayla Jacobsen, Kaydance Maertins, Dakotah Albin and Brooke Forbes were presented with trophies for the work they did this year in the categories of Chapter Contribution, Community Involvement, and Personal Development. Having met all the criteria, Senior Shayla Jacobsen was recognized was an Outstanding Senior and presented the FCCLA Honor Cord to wear at graduation. 

 

Officers for the 2024-25 year were announced and installed: President Kaydance Maertins, Vice-President Dakotah Albin, Secretary Ashlyn Forbes, Public Relations-Jaden May, Historian-Meleah Buck, National Programs, Scarlet Torrey

 

The night concluded with the giving of senior gifts.  Members will be calling donors at the start of May for the May 20th blood drive to be held from 9-3 at the high school.  Donors may go online to redcross.org and begin registering for their donation times.
