FCCLA Attends Peer Education Conference

The Plainview FCCLA Chapter joined 330 students and advisers from 42 chapters across the state for the 2026 State Peer Education Conference held in Kearney, NE on February 23.  Attending from Plainview were Kaydance Maertins, Dakotah Albin, Chloe Kemnitz, Scarlet Torrey, Payten Johansen and Adviser Ronita Jacobsen.  The theme of the conference was “Grow Bold, Live Gold”. The day provided students and advisers from chapters across Nebraska an opportunity of leadership development, peer education, and community engagement.

The conference featured an exciting lineup of activities, including keynote addresses, breakout sessions, and recognition ceremonies. The keynote speaker, Trooper Tim Flick from the Nebraska State Patrol, captivated attendees with his informational talk on “Human Trafficking Safety," with this he shared valuable information about awareness, prevention, and responses to human trafficking. In a breakout session, Trooper Flick further discussed how to respectfully support and interact with survivors without re-traumatizing them. The National Program focuses for the State Peer Officer Teams this year are Stand Up, Career Connects, and FACTS.

Attendees participated in three engaging breakout sessions. Keynote speaker Trooper Tim Flick from the Nebraska State Patrol. Additional breakout sessions included a presentation by Team Nutrition on the nutritional value and versatility of dry beans as part of healthy eating initiatives and Hannah Mayo of Creighton, Nebraska, presented on coping skills for teens, providing practical strategies students can use to manage stress and navigate challenging situations

The State Peer Education Conference continues to provide Nebraska students with meaningful opportunities to develop leadership skills, promote wellness, and make a positive impact in their schools and communities through Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).

Members ended the day with a closing session and drawing for door prizes. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps students become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. With over 199,000 members nationwide and nearly 3,000 members in over 100 chapters in Nebraska, FCCLA is the only career and technical in-school student organization with a central focus on careers that support families. Participation in FCCLA programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities. Nebraska FCCLA is supported through the Nebraska Center for Student Leadership and Extended Learning at the Nebraska Department of Education.
