Students and staff at Plainview High School are making a significant impact in their community through their ongoing partnership with the American Red Cross, hosting regular blood drives that provide life-saving donations to local hospitals and medical facilities.

The school's most recent Red Cross Blood Drive, held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, demonstrated the strong commitment to service that has become a hallmark of the Plainview community. Organized by the school's Plainview FCCLA and Educators Rising career and technical  student (CTSO) organizations,  the drive collected 35 units of blood throughout the day, just one unit shy of the 36-unit goal set by the Red Cross.

"Everyone's donations and commitment to donating is greatly appreciated, " said FCCLA Adviser and Educator Rising Teacher Leader Ronita Jacobsen, who helps coordinate the school's blood drive efforts. "Thank you to everyone for coming in to donate blood, for scheduling your appointments, and using Rapid Pass. This greatly increases the flow of the drive and keeps waiting time low."

While organizers had hoped to reach their goal of 36 donations, they emphasized that every contribution makes a meaningful difference in saving lives throughout the region. Organization student leaders will continue their efforts of contacting donors for the next drive with hopes of meeting that goal, including gaining Power Red Donors.

The next blood drive will take place on Wednesday, May 6, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the Plainview Tartan Gym. With 48 appointment slots available and a goal of 33 donations, organizers are encouraging early registration through redcross.org to ensure efficient operations and minimal wait times for donors.

In an innovative connection between community service and education, the total number of blood donations collected throughout the school year directly impacts scholarship funding that the Red Cross provides to Plainview CTSO students. This unique partnership creates a direct link between the school's community service efforts and support for students' educational futures.

Each blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives, according to Red Cross statistics. The school's ongoing commitment to hosting these drives represents a significant contribution to the regional blood supply, which is constantly needed by hospitals and emergency medical services.

Community members, students, and staff are all eligible to participate in the upcoming May drive. Those interested in donating can register online at redcross.org or contact the school's main office at 402-582-4991 for more information.

The school's blood drive program exemplifies how educational institutions can serve as vital community partners, bringing together students, families, and neighbors in support of a common cause that directly benefits those in need of medical care throughout the region.
